Resurfacing brake rotors?

I am going to change out all the pads on the car to new ones (more track orientated).

Think it's wise to get the rotors turned at the local auto parts store? Or does it not really matter? Long term will I still get just as good braking potential? I don't mind if it takes a little longer to bed in as long as the end result is the same.

Can you resurface Viggen rotors with the slots in them?

TIA

i belive technically you can resurface slotted rotors but it has to be done by a machine shop. please correct me if that is wrong.

Sure, you can resurface them, but its going to eat into the slots.

What are the reasons you think you need to resurface them?

Personally, I've never turned a set of my own unless they had some strange wear or bad pulsing.

Never actually replaced pads without replacing the disk at the same time (has just worked out like that), wasn't sure of the widely accepted opinion on it.

I will not resurface then.

you can resurface the rotors as long as they are not warped beyond the point that it will effect the venting on the rotors... I resurface almost every car that comes into my work as long as they will be within spec once done. You can resurface the vented rotors just make sure the place doing it knows how to....

i believe new rotors typically only cost 5-10 dollars more then having your original rotors resurfaced... for that cost id rather just buy new!

replacement viggen rotors are $140 from GS, 170 if he gets them slotted.

it shouldnt cost more than $20 to get rotors turned.

jon, unless there is a specific reason (weird wear or vibration, as jessop said), and your rotors still have life left in them, i wouldnt worry about having them turned.
