Bulb Burning!

I have a '99 9-3. Every month or two I keep burning out one of my Halogen H4/9003's. Has anyone else had this problem? Is ther a way to fix it? I've tried Wagner, GE, APC, but all seem to do it and it can be on either headlamp.

Curious to know what others have experienced.

ive been having headlight issues too... kept having 1 bulb go out (not the same one... just at random) but i have euro lights wired in and thought that could hav ebeen part of the problem. Well then i had 3 go at once and just gave up driving at night for the last week... then last night they all came back on again! so this time i really had not blown any of them. I think its the relay. I think thats what made them go out initially too.

Yeah, I had that problem too, but thanks to burnsside he found and fixed the relay. It was just loose. Just wiggle it back in.

keep in mind if your skin comes in contact with the glass on the bulb while installing it you are very likely to have a premature failure. Make sure you use a soft paper towel or a clean rag to handle the bulbs when you put them in place.

That being said, it could also be due to a bad relay or a loose bulb housing that allows the bulb to rattle around excessively.

Yeah I know you're not supposed to touch the bulb because the oil on your skin will get heated up by the lightbuld and won't evaporate until AFTER it reaches temperatures high enough to break the bulb and glass assembly.

which is the relay for that light?

Yeah, check your light controll relay. Look at your bulb and make sure it is actually bad.

I was told the light controll relay can be fixed with some solder but I looked at mine an didn't see loose connection. I'll post more after tonight when I can swap one out.

All good info, thanks. I am also very careful not to touch bulbs. Can anyone tell me how to locate the relay in order to check? Is it a specific color? I hate crawling under the dash.
