who can diagnose this symptom?

Car starts only after cranking 10 or 15 sec. and does so grudgingly.as in not getting enough fuel. Once it starts it will idle fine but will stall if you touch the throttle what so ever. It is a problem that would appear and disappear without warning and all at once. Either 100% or not at all. The last time it did this while I was driving on the highway- lost all power all at once- as if some one flicked a switch. Once I came to a stop showed same symptoms described above. Was actually able to get off the highway with the engine idling and in first gear. Had this problem before and after changing fuel pump. Now car won't start at all, I think I might have burnt out my fuel pump driving it like that to get it off the highway? I think this is now a 2 layered problem if you know what I mean.

If it were me, I'd put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail and see what it's reading and confirm the new pump as good. And if that's good, then next I'd suspect a failing/failed crank position sensor.

1999 9-3 2.0 turbo

225,000 miles not original motor in it. That's all the info I have on it bought it 4 years ago was up on blocks for the last three. Just got it going again last winter. When I initially broke down it would start as I described, Now no power to fuel pump. Two different problems? Related? When I changed cps plugged in both ends. Did I miss something? How do I trouble shoot between CPS and Fuse? It goes ignition-relay-cps-fuse-pump, right? I'll look into the purge valve thing, that's for the stalling thing obviously. Thanks
