Is it worth it?

Is it worth $185 for the se audio upgrade(used) consisting of the Door speakers and amp?

I'd say that's pretty steep.
$100 maybe.
You are talking about a 40W amp and 2 semi-decent speakers.

I like the sound in my (stock) SE, but I would not pay $185 to upgrade to it.

I picked up used co-axial 6.5" MB-Quarts that sound amazing compared to the ones you are talking about and for a lot less money.

one thing to consider is that the audio upgrade is that the 6.5 inch speakers in the door are for bass only. Another member on SC tried hooking up the amp to full range speakers and it was still only bass. The saab amp is internally crossed over to only amplify bass.

I think I'd rather have a full range speaker there, and a subwoofer in the back. So lets say about 65 dollars for some quality speakers, and then another 100 for a decent 4 channel amp, and you come out a little farther ahead toward your subwoofer. Of course installation costs a little more.

Makes sense. I'm gonna hold out and see if I can find the upgrade kit for at least $150 and upgrade the dash speakers which I've read are a big weak point in the saab system. I'm not looking to have anything crazy. I have a Vert. and don't think I'm willing to lose anymore trunk space with a sub.

To me the 3.5" dash speakers were a waste. I took the 2" Mb tweeters and mounted them there instead. The staging is perfect and very clean. Cpenning heard it yesterday, maybe he can chime in and confirm.

$70 shipped, mint in the box with all hardware and instructions. Retail was about $300 when new.

There are also alot of aftermarket 3.5 inch speakers that are inexpensive.

Ok so i just got a new deck i am veerrry impressed with the pioneer 9857...id also agree that the tweets in the dash suck, i have to put 70% power to the hatch speakers and 30% to the tweets so the tweets dont crackle. does anyone have any ideas for nice speakers to fill in both the tweets and the hatch? how hard would this install be? and would it make it sound noticably better than stock?

also, are there hatch speakers that put out enough bass that a sub isnt needed?

Thanks for the help

do door speakers, they have plenty of bass. I just put door speakers in, no amp or anything, and i cant have anything hard in the door pockets because it rattles too much. They sound really good, Kenwood 6.5's and 6x9's in the rear, didnt touch the dash speakers, no sub, sounds great
