problems with a 5 speed

I have no reverse in my 96 900. I have the new style shift linkage and am fairly positive it is not a linkage problem. When I put it in reverse the back up lights come on but it behaves like it is still in neutral. I jacked it up and put it in reverse and the wheels actually spin forward! Does anyone have any info on rebuilding these transmissions or one for sale?

Look on www.car-part.com

Type in your zip code and your car's info and you should be able to find some for pretty cheap!

Hmmm, perhaps you need to check the adjustment on that "new style shift linkage"? It could be that, while the lever is moving enough for it's position to be read by the sensor, it's moving not quite enough for it to physically lock itself into gear. This is a manual trans, yes?

Try aligning the shifter linkage?

It'll take like 15 minutes and is well-worth doing.

Yeah, I thought that maybe it wasn't engaging but I can't get it to reverse even on jackstands with the linkage disconnected manual moving the shift lever. I tried the linkage adjustment several times also no dice. How bad a job is it to rebuild this trans?
