Center drive shaft replaced - vibration gone

My Saab (2000 9-3S, 102,921 miles) has a mild-to medium vibration at when accelerating at highway speeds, particularly under load, up hill, or when turning. It's gotten more noticeable in the couple of years, and today I had it inspected and fixed by Anders at Swedecar in Torrance, CA.

Interestingly, and unfortunately, the inner joint on the passenger side was empty of grease, though the shaft boot was not broken, with no obvious indication of a leak. I was told the grease would get hot and liquify, getting past the boot, and I guess flying out as it turned. I assume this is why it never go noticed during routine service by my former mechanic in SF.

So, on the passenger side, the center drive shaft was well worn, and replaced (SAAB OEM), with the tripod bearing and seals. On the driver's side, the shaft was fine, so just the diff bushing and seal were replaced.

Not a cheap repair, but...the vibration is gone! I can now smoothly accelerate and took great pleasure in doing that on the drive home.
