DI Cassete

I will first say I feel like an idiot for asking this question.....

Is the DI casette merely the black piece of plastic right above my engine

that says saab ecopower on it? What does the DI Cassette do and why is it

important and so expensive ($350 correct?) Thanks in advance for my rookie

question.

The DI is the part in between the valve covers that say Ecotec on them.

It has the plug leads coming out of the bottom of it. That's why are no spark plug wires on our cars, because the DI is "better".

There is 4 torx head bolts holding it down. Take the screwdriver tool in your tool kit by your spare tire, and take the bolts out, then pull straight up.

Then you will understand.

IIRC they should also say "Direct Ignition" on them - hence "DI"

Its a coil pack. It replaces spark plug wires and alternator, I believe and is a crucial part of the t-5 and t-7 engine management systems. If it's busted, you're not going anywhere. It is as essential to your car as your key.
