Blown Turbo

Ok so tonight I was going down the highway racing a New Charger SRT-8 and I got him. Yay win for me. But it wasnt. All of a sudden I lose all boost pressure and lots of smoke like clouds so thick you cant see through it behind me. I pull over and I look underneath hood my turbo exhaust side and manifold are glowing RED! lol. So im sitting there thinking hope I diddnt blow my head gasket but then I checked all my plugs normal colors and checked my oil, normal not milky. Soo hmmmm ok Start car up runs fine. Smoking alot little bit of oil shooting out my exhaust tip and a gawddd awful sound that almost sounded like it was coming from the head?!?! But im hoping its coming from turbo. It sounds almost as somebody threw a matchbox car in my turbo and its making clinging noises and stuff. Motor revs all the way up fine minus smoke and no knocks or nothing and does not build boost. So does this sound like a blown turbo?

Could be, mine idled fine when it let loose, but had zero power/boost-duh! And it smoked like a bitch, but made no noise as that shaft snapped. Pull DP off to side and check for shat play, etc

Do you have a downpipe?

What are some of the specs on what parts and tunes and stuff your car has.

Hey, sorry about your turbo. To me it sounds like the turbine has become unbalanced and begun hitting the exhaust housing. Usually they are still driveable for a while after this happens with just some clinging sounds, but it sounds like yours has been on the way out for a while. There also may be an oil flow issue that caused this. If you are replacing with a known good turbo I would clean out the oil lines really well by spraying some degreaser through them and letting them sit like that over night to loosen up any sludge that may slow oil flow. I know we were chatting a couple weeks ago about my blown TD04, I still have it, its probably in the same boat as your tubro, but if you want it to do a tdo4 upgrade it will be more worthit to put the repair money into a TDO4 than the turbo you have.

You can drive stage 4 without an exhaust. If you beat on it with the Downpipe removed, you're heating things up and likely to cause damage.

Well I got the turbo off today and the shaft inside it broke right in half. I could shake the turbo and it makes clinging noises because the compressor wheel just moves around in there everywhere lol. Well im hopefully getting a turbo on Turbo9Three or something like that. A nice 18T.

Bummer, sorry to hear about the turbo going out on you like that. Just make sure to run that 18t with your down pipe - if not, you're asking for another broken shaft. Those things generate more heat than the stock 15T.
