2000 viggen questions

I'm looking at a 2000 viggen convertible with 131,000 miles. I know there were sludge problems with these engines (oil starvation) and was wondering if there was an easy oil pressure check method other than looking at the Oil pressure guage? Could pull the valve cover, but it's not my car. The CEL is on and have been told that the EGR purge valve or PCV need replacing. Compression check is pretty straight forward. I am also concerned with drive train abuse issues. Second gear synchros? Differential? Any ideas, tips or things to look for? Sometimes they get rouged up and neglected. This one looks OK, BUT....

CEL? If it was me I would walk away. But if they say it's the EGR valve/hose/canister/etc that needs to be replaced, then have them replace it. One reason these cars sludge up is because of PCV valves, and your car will not throw a code with it broken/unhooked so the code does not relate to that.
If you are serious, spend the money to have a shop go over it, and with 130K, a PCV problem, have them check for sludge. Does it have all of it's records like oil changes, etc?? Is if shifting ok, making noise?

Owner said he'd get it fixed (the CEL thing). The LR wheel was locked and did not appear to be the e-brake, but the pad. Rotors were rusty from sitting and the smooth floor with dirt on it could not break the pad/rotor bond. Idled well, but would not buy a car because it idled well. Bottom line- did not drive it and will not talk money until I do so. Will check for maint. records. Thanks for the advice.
