Just picked up an ECU off ebay

$17.95 to my door
Ill be getting this one reflashed since my 99 is running a 16 bit instead of the 20
hopefully this will get rid of the P1652 and the poor cold start ability.

There probably is on ECUProject. Off the top of my head I think its the difference between OBDI(16) and OBDII(20) cars. Although I am not 100% sure myself.

i think it was determined that that wasnt exactly the issue, I'm not even really sure what the difference is, other than the part number on the processor ends in 16 on the one and 20 on the other . I do know that its safe to run a 16mhz program on a 20mhz box, but not always the other way around.

Paul

Is there an operating difference on the 16 and 20mhz boxes?

Nope. Some OBDII boxes are 16 Mhz. As PaulH said, 16Mhz software will run on 20 Mhz hardware, but vice versa is unstable. The only real difference in the software is that the sensor I/O's are set to run at a different clock rate.

I hope you didn't buy a motronic! (non turbo)
If you did come across a trionic that cheap, kudos!!

Yeah like he said, you can run the 16mhz program on the 16mhz box and the 20mhz box
But a 20mhz program can only run flawlessly on a 20mhz box

Of course you could just flash the program you need to the box to get what you want but you need a bdm/canusb/pe micro to do that.

But any ecu after 1996 should be a 20mhz if I am not mistaken (the chip on the actual ecu ends in a 20, you need to open it up to see it though)
