Making Pretty

I'm going to go ahead and call it spring (watch it snow tonight... just because I said that).

My car is a sad panda right now. Hasn't been cleaned since November, and winter has taken its rusty toll on things. Corner light lens made of packing tape. Scratches. Ect. I'm going to start the process of making the ol' girl a little less beat looking.

This is the thread I will put (probably lots of) pics in.

First step: Wash the thing, get the summer steelies back in top shape as well as the grille.

Instead of peanut oil for the trim, use 303 aerospace protectant or black wow. Peanut oil will run eventually in the rain and stain the paint.

+1 on the aerospace stuff. It is awesome. As son as i get time, i'll take some photos of my interior and exterior after detailing it with that stuff. SOOO much better than anything else i've used.

Also to keep the cars i have clean in the winter, I spray them off after any trip in the salt/snow. I'm pretty disturbed by knowing my car is rusting away while i sleep. lol

It's only $1.25 here for three minutes. I'll spend 5 bucks a week.

I still get rust in places, but I grind it down with a dremel and make sure i cover it with some kind of rust reformer. The stuff that makes it black. That will lessen your work in the spring...

I definitely plan to get something more SRS than peanut oil, but it works for now. That Aerospace stuff looks pretty good, thanks for the suggestion

discovered that the summers look better than I remember, so they're just going on. They'd be on already, but someone just had to take the impact and both 17mm 1/2" drive sockets today

Pics time!

Before...

Pics don't do it justice, really

Horrible pic, post-wash.

Improvements in progress....

While it was drying, I cleaned up the inside and put the summer floor mats in.

Mouth-breathing with wheels swapped, waiting for the glue to dry in the grille.

Annd, with the grille

So far, so good

Seems like you have some weird gaps between that corner light and the fender and bumper.

Stig you should really get on your hatch rust cas me being ocd it bugs me where a corner is left to rot and rust.... Actually any rust bothers me.

That's why as soon as my transmission is back in, I'm doing a full interior and exterior detailing.

Rust ftl. Srsly. Just waiting for one package to come

Played musical wheels today.

Hmm.

In black..

Before anyone comments, yes that is the worlds most monumentally half-assed rattlecan job ever. I just threw some paint on to see it in black, the two wheels in these pics are getting sandblasted next week (did the other two today), then painted fo realz.

I won't be getting rid of the steelies or anything.... I just like to change things, and the price is right on these babies

Also, for fun...

Nice Stig. I can't wait to have my car back. I haven't the heart to post all my pictures of it that are sitting on my camera. Half are pictures of it and the other half are it being taken apart piece by piece.

Now its being put back together. I can't wait to drive it. Haven't driven my Saab in 3 months.

BTW PoisonBeef/John is calling me obsessed with my Anti-Rust Crusade. O well....
