Little "S" button on shifter ad little "snow flake" on shift council

I just bought a SAAB 900 s convertible last Saturday with out an owners manual. AHHH my kingdom for an owners manual.... anyway... it's an automatic and has a little "S" button on the shift handle...what is that for???? Also there is a little "snow flake" button or something on the shift council.. what is that?? Thanks for any info. and if you have a good source for owners manuals please pass it on.

the S would probably be "sport mode".

Snow flake is AC right? unless its the snow flake down by the shifter, then thats winter mode and starts you out in 2nd gear in case there is ice.

S gets you into "sport" mode. This will let the car rev awesomely high.

Snowflake is for winter, it starts the car out in 2nd or 3rd gear to prevent slipping.

And welcome aboard man, what year is the car?

Wow thanks for the quick replies. So what does sport mode do for me? The winter mode makes sense.

Just doesn't shift untill like 6k rpms.

My mom has an auto 2.3 car, makes it alot more fun to drive, but still doesn't replace the turbo.

You have a better resource here, I guarantee it. These people know Saabs like you know to breathe oxygen. If you have a question, post it. No one will bite your head off. We've all been beginners at some point or another

winter mode starts the car 3rd so you get less wheelspin, great for snow and ice at stop lights.

sport mode uses a different map for the electronic throttle and revs higher/holds gears longer and is more likely to downshift on hard acceleration.

respect the S

I am speaking of the button down by the shifter, I am sure that it is the winter mode button from previous descriptions.

I have already found useful information from past threads, like the radio code and the intrument cluster lights rheostat. LMAO I was wondering why half of the SAABs I test drove had broken radios.

Pressing either button should result in lighted indicators on the dash. After pressing the 'S' the dash should say 'Sport' and likewise with the 'W' or snowflake, they should light an indicator that says 'Winter'

This is true.

I don't know how much or a difference "sport" mode actually makes. On full throttle runs it does seem to hold the gear about 1-200 rpm higher, but on the strip it made 0 difference in my e.t. I made 2 passes normally, 2 with sport mode on, and 2 shifting from 1-2-3-4 and all 6 runs were within .1 of each other
