HELP! Slave cylinder bleed!!

Hello I am in the process of putting my tranny back together with my motor after clutch install, but bleeding the clutch seems to be alittle misleading. I bleed the clutch slave with a brake bleeder with no prob, if im not mistaken according to the WIS the slave should remain in its inner most position...? how, its spring operated? I say so also because as i put the trans onto the motor it squirted out the plug along with some fluid. What did i do wrong, and is there air in my slave system now? Any advise is greatly appreciated i really only want to do this job once, thank in advanced sc.
