Marrying ECU? 03 Saab 9-3

Quite sure my ecu has a intermittent issue causing a no start. Getting a new ecu "used" but I hear you need to marry it with a Tech 2. Does it need to be a Tech 2 or can you also use other scan tools? I have a Altel scanner.

Tech2 only, with access to factory "Security Access" protocol only. The Tech2 has to "phone home" to be allowed permission to code important modules to the car, like the ECM.

Alright looks like I'm going to the GM dealer. Hopefully it fixes the issue. Ecu is suspected to be faulty.
