pretty sure you need a dealer or someone with a tech2 to pair to the car and i dont know of anywhere that does key cutting for the laser cuts. It usually only the dealers or really expensive places

They aren't laser cut, but they are milled. Any good automotive specific lock shop should be able to do it.

And yes, a dealer, or good independent with a Tech2 will have to code the chip in the key to allow the car to start.

Get the key blade cut first and make sure it turns in the locks and ignition, and then get the chip coded.

any reason you didnt just get one from a local indy or GM dealer? because with the costs for all the steps i cant imagine it saves much.

I local dealer (mag) didn't make keys and wanted to rape me to order one that was pre-cut.

I didn't think about a GM dealer cause I know GM owned Saab in 01 but, I tend to think of 02 and + being the GM models

How much was rape? If its a remote key something like $200 is what they cost unfortunately. The key blade, remote and rear cover are about $170 just for the parts.

You can use the plain head key like came with all 9-3's and should only be about $100 from the dealer.

You are asking the question in the wrong forum.

Go down to the ng and old 9-3 forum. There is a world of difference between keys, you have a real key and the new use an electronic fob. The hard key is inside the fob but only opens the doors and can't start the car.

It's never easy with Saab. Like some folks said however, finding an old established former dealer is probably a good bet.

I found a shop in plain city that could cut the key I had but, I'd only go that route if your ignition has been changed out in your Saab otherwise I would just order a pre-cut key from European Auto Parts - Wholesale Genuine and OEM | Saab BMW Volvo VW Mini Audi Porsche Mercedes Benz
