high mileage sport sedan

just worked on an '03 sport sedan with 105k on the clock. this is the highest mileage new 9-3 i've seen, and it still felt nice and tight and doesn't leak a drop of oil.

now all you new 9-3 guys can feel warm and fuzzy.

at that mileage, the suspension should still be in good order... was it in for electrical issues?

Well that makes me feel slightly better...I have an 03 that comes out of warranty in 100 miles.

Uh oh!

Glad that my stereo seems to have taken a shit for the fifth time.

Amp replaced. Then CD changer replaced. Then CD changer replaced again. Then amp replaced. Then last week I turn my car on and all of the speakers start squeeling/popping/really high whining. Turn the stereo off ad then back on...still going crazy. After work, I come out to my car and the stereo isn't popping but the drivers side door speaker doesn't work and the passenger door speaker pops.

:bang head:

An 03 we were going to look at was at our dealer before we had the chance. I asked the tech what it had done and said the whole stereo as you described was replaced under warranty. It was that day he told me to stay away from 03's.

that all sounds quite normal. the stereo system, or "infotainment" is all on what's called the o-bus. o stands for optical...as in fiber optical. they can be quite tempermental, but i think saab finally got the clue as they eliminated teh o-bus on the '07s when they did the interior update.

tip- if something takes a shit in that system after it's out of warranty, you can bypass a control module buy taking the fiber optic cables out of the connector and shoving them into each end of a very short chunk of vaccuum line. it sounds quite crude, but all you need is for that light signal to get transmitted to the next unit.

the o-bus functions like christmas tree lights....one thing goes down, it all stops working.

ok........and?

the 9-5 has been around for awhile and has more than proven itself. i've seen lots of high mileage 9-5's.....the 9-3ss still has people questioning it's durability, that's why i thought 105k on an '03 was worth mentioning.
