91 mcy color code

Anyone know the color code for a 1991 saab 900 se Monte Carlo yellow? I saw online that it was 231 mcy but when I had the paint made it seems too bright and doesn't match the original paint.

From what I've heard it's tough to match the original MCY paint

Mine's been repainted in different places at different times, and you can't really tell from more than 10 feet, but up close you can tell that it's a few different shades of MCY.

I imagine its rather impossible to match 20 year old paint.

Control what you can:

buy quality paint
Have a reputable supplier mix it
have it sprayed properly...

Other than that... your at the mercy of todays technology so don't be to keen on exact matching...

this is probably one in few instances where close still reaps the cigar...

This says C900 Monte Carlo Yellow is 231.

Same color code listed for NG900 and 9-3. It's probably hard to match because it's hard to tell when they fade since the color is so light?

There were two other yellow's (didn't know that), Alabaster Yellow (187B) and Florentine Yellow (188B).

the color will never ever, ever never, never never match.

for one reason if nothing else:

Chemicals used to make paint today is alien years beyond what was used to mix paint in the 1980's...

further more, you and I can mix the same paint and get a different shade... its a craft just like drawing....

No 2 mixes will be the same........ unless your paying crazy money...

Try going somewhere other than Lowes to procure paint.

Thank

Go to a shop that can scan the original color and mix the paint to match.

^yes, this. I'm using that service for a project at work. They can mix paint to match faded paint.

Also, was the original MCY a single stage or did it have a clearcoat? I can't remember.

Anyway, that's going to be a factor as well.
