c900 Turbo Air Intakes

My 87' SPG came with an aftermarket performance filter (K&N) attached where the normal air box would have been. Does somebody have a photo of what the original setup looks like? Is it the same as the NA's had (cylindrical filter housing)?

Also if anyone knows of an ideal way of mounting the performance air filter I could use some feedback / advice, or whether it's advisable to keep this type of filter in the first place. I've heard differing opinions on whether or not they should be used on these cars.

Edit: Actually just found this:

I can see why folks would be opposed to having an open-air filter in that location where it will never get any cool air. I'd have to agree with using the stock airbox and snorkel, but changing the filter element.

But since you already have what you have...and just the filter hanging there isn't the best.....
My '86 NA parts car came with a K&N filter setup like that. It had a small bracket bolted thru the center of the end of the filter and down to where the airbox originally bolted to the fender. Between that and the hose connection, it seemed pretty sturdy.
I've ripped the car apart, so no pics, but likely still have the pieces.

Maybe something like that would work for you for now?

I'm not sure. I'm going to do some more digging and will post back when I have a solution.
