Quinn's 99 Rally Car Project

So it's a 75 now, hense the new thread name. I left out a year designation incase I change my mind again, but I doubt I will! :)

It's a 75 and it just needs a slave cylinder, and uh, paint! All the lights are in the trunk.

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...9interior2.jpg

So who wants to buy the interior?

CooperS7777 01-01-2007 08:28 PM

Pimpin' - especially the interior. What are the plans for it?

saabsbreakdown 01-01-2007 08:32 PM

Plans include:

Slave Cylinder
John Deere Blitz Black
Roll Cage
Rear Sway Bar
Rally Tires
Bailing wire to hold up muffler.

That is the complete list and should secure me a podium finish!!

Interior will come out, racing seats and harnesses etc will go in.. but you get the picture. This car will be almost totally stock for my first rally.

Are you painting my car too??

bozs13 01-02-2007 07:20 AM

AeroDynamic 01-02-2007 07:29 AM

:) I know, but how much do they USUALLY go for :) I'm not as lucky as quinn :)

I don't care how beat up it is, just a piece of crap to drive until my primary car is done

DeLorean 01-02-2007 09:46 AM

looking nice ;) When are the power heated memory seats coming?

PaulH 01-02-2007 10:07 AM

blitz black FTW! thats gonna be badass.

Paul

saabsbreakdown 01-02-2007 05:46 PM

You can't find rust free 99's on the east coast. So it doesn't matter how much they cost.

It was 200.

Kaylan, blitz black is a tractor paint. Its flat black. As in not shiny, not red, and not carbon fiber. So it won't match your camera phone or anything in your room. Like, oh my god!

The slave cylinder replacement is going far easier than I imagined.

I'm using two M8 x 40mm bolts and 2 nuts to force the pressure plate assembly away from the flywheel. After getting it compressed, an old broken coil wire fit right in.

Now I'm going to lift the radiator up and out of the way so I can get the splined shaft out.

I hate to say it, but Saab Central has helped alot with this project. I only hope the 99 board here is as informative one day as the one of SC is now.

now, you must die. :-|

I propped the radiator up out of the way so I could get the splined shaft out of the transmission. This worked very well and I didn't have to drain the coolant.

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...linedshaft.jpg

After it got dark I got distracted by my glow in the dark car:
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...winthedark.jpg

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...kedglasses.jpg

Atleast my glasses arn't crooked.

So I got everything back together and reverse-bled the slave cylinder. It works! Tomorrow I'll put all the pressure plate bolts in, put the tail lights on, and should have the car driving street legal before monday.

I took two other pictures while I was in the shop. Here's one of dad's new '75 3 door.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...car/blue75.jpg

Has a little rear end damage there. Thats why we got it, the guy who was restoring it left it out on the street infront of his shop. Hit and run.

Here is the SPG undergoing a heart transplant. We've had this car for about 10 years, and he is thinking of selling it.

PaulH 01-03-2007 06:54 PM

the more pics of repairs being done on 99's i see, the more i think i should just get a 900....so much easier to work on...

Paul

saabsbreakdown 01-03-2007 09:29 PM

Yeah but 900's suck

yeah they suck right up until you try and remove a driver side inner driver with the engine in the car...900=difficult..99=impossible.

Sell it.......to me

3MaSaab 01-06-2007 06:56 AM

Quinn.
Can you search for a '77 ems for me out there?
They are truly impossible to locate here.
Considering nice body, will rebuild everything else.
I really don't have the $$ for body repair in these parts. but i'm good at the fine details:D
I've started to drive back roads looking in people's back forty for them.
People are hiding these.....Aghhhhhh

GA 01-06-2007 07:03 AM

that lime green 99 is really cool, especially with the Inca's.

Palmer 01-06-2007 07:06 AM

I have a feeling that all the cars in Quinns' yard kick ass....

spgproject 01-06-2007 04:13 PM

yes paul. you should just get another 900.

x1,000,000,000 ;)

saabsbreakdown 01-06-2007 07:28 PM

Paul needs to trick out that 99 and stop being a pussy.

We have a 1970 and a 1975 99 coupes for sale. Neither one is an EMS but that doesn't matter, they are both perfect bodies with perfect windshields and need everything else, so it can be an EMS when you're done :)

We're taking low offers.

The '85T 900 had the sweet turbo punch. I liked that turbo better than the '88.

saabsbreakdown 01-07-2007 06:23 PM

So this car is running like crap. Idles fine but get it on the road and your not going anywhere. I smelled bad gas so that means I need to take everything apart and check it.. ugh.

It also doesn't roll very easily and sounds like it has two bad wheel bearings.

spgproject 01-07-2007 06:32 PM

have fun with that. sounds worse than a farking root canal.

saabsbreakdown 01-13-2007 02:09 PM

I see the need for clutch shrouds now that my flywheel has taken a substantial amount of skin off one of my knuckles.

JK 01-13-2007 02:11 PM

Skinned them while the car was running? Sucks!

Is that car K-Jet "basic"?

saabsbreakdown 01-13-2007 02:12 PM

Its got a non functional lambda valve in the loop.

Sounds familiar! And yeah, my car would idle just fine, but run like shit when moving...untill I got it tuned just right :-D
