Question How would you build this car with this pile of parts?

Ok now that the turbo'd notchback is getting wrapped up, im looking at starting on the next project.

Car is a special 70's green 78 99 hatch. stock normally aspirated motor is shot. I have two ways to go with this, and welcome your all's input.

I have available a wrecked donor car, a 79 99 notch, turbo 8v, 5spd, euro CIS, good green interior, totally Euro stock (imported from finland, via canada, to my house, sold, wrecked, resold, now available to me again.)

I also have a 85 16v turbo, with rebuild 5spd, modded turbo, sitting here on the floor begging for Trionic5 setup.

I also have a set of midline black racing seats, big brake kit for early c900, bolt in 6 pt rollcage, two sets of racing wheels, and fuel cell, that will fit in the car.

so....

do I build it as a psuedo 78 99t hatch, with complete 79 donor car using its CIS, engine, trans, interior, inca wheels, exhaust, headlight, etc etc

or

strip interior, 16vT, 5spd, Trionic5, rollcage, fuel cell, etc

or even a combination using the above parts...what do you think?

I'd do a 16vT, but a street car.

Go the 16v option, and as viggenkid said keep the interior stock.

I'm a fan of the 16v...stock interior. Track car will lose its originality (leave that for a later 900).

I would go with option 1, because it is a 99. Depends if you what common or not so common. If you do the 900 it is only a 16v turbo 900, their is still alot of thoses. If you do the 99 you will have a rarer car. Somthing people will look at.

i agree with most, give it the tradionall euro-rod treatment, a healthy dose of power with a 16v T5 setup, and maybe a cage intagrated into the stock interior.. but make sure it has an interior so you can drive and enjoy it

results

this might be the most balanced poll so far in the history of saablink....no definitive answer to be found yet....

I have to say after a few comments here and elsewhere im leaning toward a stock euro 99t rebuild, and save the racing bits for a 83 900 shell i have on the way. altho id really rather have a 99 as a track rat...

A green European '79 99T is the coolest car ever. Do whatever you can to prolong it's memory!

that green is cool, my wreck is/was a 79 99t but in Marble White, same green interior tho...marble white is a greenish looking shade of white pretty cool color but not as "70's shiek" as the green.

oh the marble white ("mint white") is pretty damned slick with the green interior! I almost bought an '80 900T 5dr in that color combo a few years back.

I'm still torn... It took me a while just to vote. I say, do a little bit of both, but keep it more on the stock side as far as looks and the interior.

I guess it comes down to if this will be your sunday driver or your track car. You could always start with the interior and rip it out down the road if you decide to keep it a track car.

8vt and a 4 speed is a must.... if you must get a little more power out of it, just mod the 8vt... Add a damn FMIC.....

the 8vt has like 19x more personality then a 16v and the car would probably be worth more with the older engine
