c900 Springs for the '73 99?

I have not figured out why these might not fit, to me it appears they would be fine, however many application charts that I find list that the springs are interchangeable on 1974 and newer 99s, and all c900s. Anyone know why there would be a split in 1974? Any definite reason they would not fit?

I've been collecting the bits to overhaul the suspension on my '73 LE and I'm hesitant about pulling the trigger on the new springs until I know for sure they'll be fine. Logic says go for it, my wife's voice in my head yelling at me for spending $$$ on the wrong part says make sure first

Thanks!

Yeah, C-900 springs will fit THAT 99. The earlier 99's (pre 72 I think) had the non pivoting springs which I am fairly sure are a different diameter too.

C-900 springs will make that 99 sit very high, so you might want to take a coil or 2 off. If you stuck some intrax or similar on there, it will ride so hard you will hurt all over after about 45 min's

Sounds perfect!

I assumed as much about removing a coil or so. I'm a chronic spring cutter, so I have no issues with that.

edit, as far as the non-pivoting spring cars. Is that just a change in the A-arm? Would later A-arms fix that issue to some extent? No real reason I need to know, just curious about that.

Yeah i think the only difference is the upper a-arm, luckily I havent had a reason to deal with one of those cars.

I have only ever seen 1 pre 1973 99, and that was at Carlisle the year there were 4 99's. It was a 71 (I think) with a landau roof. That thing was awesome looking.

There are some photos posted of it already somewhere, and I don't have any new ones. The motor is being dropped off at my house today, and the car is still down at my in-laws' in their helicopter hanger.

Updating just for any future reference...my 1973 99 has c900 style pivoting spring seats. I inspected everything pretty well and I am 100% confident that it will take c900 springs, no problem.

Now the hard part will be deciding which c900 springs I try to fit. I think I will hold off with any lowering springs because I am guessing the springs will have to be cut too much...probably to the extent where they could fall out if the suspension is unweighted. No thanks!

I'll probably start by cutting down a set of c900 turbo springs and go from there.

And neither the motor, nor my car made it home. Motor was delayed due to scheduling conflicts...no big deal. And I only got the 99 running in an "acceptable" manner at the last minute and decided not to chance it until I had a whole free day to waste.
