A picture of the car when my dad originally got it, so thats what it will look like again. Hope it excites some of you as much as it does me.

As a side note I'm glad the dual carbs tickle you guys the right way =P

Thanks for the info. I dont need the rears that big on mine as im only after tyres around 7.5" wide, but I still have to do something so they can fit. I need a little extra width on the front too, and those look just right.

You wouldnt happen to know what those carbs are choked down to by any chance would you?

The car looks great in the new pics.

The dual carbs definitely tickle me the right way - thats why I've got twin Dellorto's for my car.

Unfortunately no i couldn't tell you that, but i will be able to once i get the rebuild kits and take them apart. Like I said earlier once i get the whole body media blasted to get every last bit of paint off then I'll be able to tell you more about those front fenders.

I hope that in the course of my restoration you find out some more stuff that may help you out

Ha you wish my friend I've been after that car for a long time =P. Out of curiosity what V8 did you put in the sonnet? That thing must be a monster on the street

85spgATL Thanks for the compliment, the more research i do the more i love about the car.

As a side note to anyone still reading this I found out this car was built by Jack at MSS and there was a twin car to this that i believe Jack owned. My dad towed it all the way from NY with a 73 Single carbed 99

For those interested in the wide fender flares... there is a guy on SaabRally that found a set of the original sport/rally fender flares and is making replicas of them.

I saw that posting too and was thinking about those, but I like the current flares, just gotta find out how they're made =P

Those other flares look pretty good and the replicas look to bee a pretty high quality production so that might not be a bad way to go for anyone else

any '99 ice racers out there

Started with a '69 model '99 with the spitfire engine and free wheeling. Been sold on Saabs ever since. Then came a '73 EMS and then another just like it.
They were pretty quick to 110 mph and handled very well. Put a '78 transaxle in the 73, that was interesting because it was the new chain drive down to the tranny (converted it back to gear drive- the front case was smashed on the newer one. Did that cause I launched the spider gear shaft in between the pinion and drive gear! It was like a small atomic explosion- blew the diff cover off. I'd love to ice race one up here in New Hampshire. Anyone know of any Saab ice racers up this way? Did take my EMS around the motorcycle ice racing track, second gear only, it was a ball. That was back aound 1979.
Moved up to a couple of 900's, then a 9-5 wagon 3.0T for the EX, and now 2 900ng's n/a & turbo. The first one sold me on the rest. My mechanical drawing teacher in high school had a model 96 wagon with a bumper sticker that said "Made in Trollhatten by Trolls". Got some pics somewhere..

Small update I have everything out of the car with the exception of gauges and some lines, haven't had much chance to work on it since racing season is still in full swing (until this weekend is over) Once the race season is over it's time to turn and burn on my vintage beast. The webers are being rebuilt, almost all the underhood goodies have been painted, got spare race wheels and rain tires, spare front and rear shocks, orginal SCCA log book dating back to 1978, original SCCA spec sheet on the car, and a camshaft spec card (unsure if that's the cam in the car).

well in 10 months ill be in wyotech taking diesel technology and Streetrod fabrication along with high performance. my goal is some form of saab powered RWD vehicle in my future. B234R in a sonnet but would be just as good in a 99 or even a c900.

me and my friend are planning to make a couple sets of wide fendered 9ks

I hope to have pics up sometime soon, we just got a new comp so now I gotta find my disc to upload pics from my phone.

Green9kAERO that's awesome, my dad has a C900 tube chassis car set up for RWD with the h motor that could also be set up for the B202 or other motors that could be converted to the RWD configuration. I've got to rebuild my rear fender flares and do a little repair on the fronts as they were just a bondo extension from the original fender.

The car i have yeah, he's my father, got it back at my place now. The tube chassis is sitting at his place still.

I would love to build a newer saab into a race car, either a tube chassis RWD set up or a FWD unibodied car. My goal within the next few years is to find an 03+ 9-3 with the 2 litre and turn that into my competitive GT3 car, kinda sucks i'd have to make it N/A but those ecotecs can make some serious power N/A

Update: To get a new bladder made for my fuel cell it will be $1100 due to the nature that the cell was a custom built one. So it looks like racing next year wont be happening unless some form of financial miracle befalls me.
