Did some work on the 1979 99GL today

So not content to part out a perfectly running/driving car, I did some body work today! took some pics.

Ended up replacing the entire arch, under arch, and repaired the shock tower. Most of the other work needed is fairly superficial.

Well my 99 turbo needs rust repair almost this extensively, this is basically just practice so I'll have more body work experience before I attempt that. Maybe this car will be for sale, maybe I'll drive it for a while. Not really sure yet! the 99-turbo I should be able to do a real nice job with after I get a real good handle on doing this. This was actually my first attempt at replacing a welded in panel, went fairly well I think. I could probably do a little better job at it next time as I am looking for a perfect replacement with the 99-T, the 79 GL I am looking for "pretty good". Well it does look pretty good and should be a solid long lasting repair, though to the trained eye even though it's block sanded so it's pretty close when you look down the side profile you can tell something was done due to some overlap.

Anyway, this should be a neat driver for someone. Very rare in the US being that it's a 79.

The secret ingredient is...Bondo! Theres actually a step between the green primer and the red spot putty that makes it make more sense, Delorean forgot to take a picture of that

Some bondo is necessary for all good body repair, no one can get sheet metal perfect! It just has a...stigma.

I am impressed, hopefully your body skills will match your mechanical skills after some more practice.

Nice!

I am sooooooo contemplating picking up a '73 or '74 99 that's down here...and seeing you doing work to a car in that shape makes me think I'd be crazy to not get it
