The ol 924 MR (RWD 99)

Figured I would put pics of the recent project even though it isn't a Saab. It's pretty much a RWD 99.

1977 Porsche 924 Martini-Rossi

Specs:
2.0L 8 Valve
50/50 weight distribution 2300 lbs
Independant Front and Rear Suspension
Front Engine/Rear Transaxle

Bought it about 4 years ago and been tinkering with it over the years until last weekend where 9000thomas and I tore the ol' girl down and she's getting a fresh coat of paint. The best part with this car is almost no rust except for a pencil sized hole and the rest is surface rust. Hopefully will have pics next weekend in drab green primer.

PS. Sorry about the crappy cell phone pics.

Nice, always liked that body style, but that one has the 2.0l originally from a VW van.

Yeah it's the same motor in the Van, Audi 100, Rabbit.... It's the same that VW used in almost every thing. And yes just like all of the VWs it has no power, 100 Hp.

Not really. The motor will stay the way it is since it's a limited edition car. Now I would like to get a 944 and put the SB Chevy conversion kit in it. With the kit as far as I have found it's a drop right in deal.

There was a 944 for sale here on craigslist a couple weeks ago, I tried picking it up for parts, owner said it needed a clutch, 1000. Emailed him and never heard back.

I too would like to know the similarities. Do they have the same track width and wheel base or something? I can't think of anything elase they could have in common.

The reason that I said that is because both of them for engines are 2.0l SOCH with about 100 hp, use the same CIS injection system and the transmission gearing is almost exactly the same.

And when I drive the car the ride and general performance are close to the same until you throw the 924 into corners and the 99 would push.

Do the cars share anything like a Sonnet to a 96 no. But to me when I drive both cars back to back the 924 feels very close to a RWD 99.

Well justifed - I wasn't having a go but was genuinely curious. A RWD 99 would be great. It has been discussed on SaabRally.com and I have seen pics of a 4WD 99 Conversion using half a hacked up 99 gearbox for the rear diff. But for all that time and money why not just weld a 99 body on a different car? Now there is a thought...

Interesting stuff mate.
