2001 9-5 OEM stereo

If anyone had read my older post on the radio, you may be wondering why I am here again with the radio questions?
Here it is. I bought the 9-5 missing the radio. I installed an aftermarket head unit. When you turn it on, the speakers pop. On top of that the speakers don't work correctly, I get the most sound from the left front speaker, and I can't seem to adjust it?
So it is time to suck it up and just get an OEM radio and put it together right.
I have read that I may need the VIN from the car a used radio comes from? So the dealer can program the radio to the car? Is there any way around this? I just want to be careful buying a radio from a salvage yard, and that I get the VIN if I do need it.
Any info is appreciated!
Thanks

I would first look at the wiring of the existing wiring and see if they did it right.

If you get a radio that was "divorced" from the previous car, they can reprogram it to the new car. Otherwise you need to old VIN.

OK, I know the car harness wasn't damaged. It has the aftermarket stuff attached with adapter plugs made to fit the car.
I will be getting a used radio. I will be sure it is properly divorced!
You backed up what I thought I needed for it!
Thank you

I need one for a 2001 9-5. As I never had the radio, I'm not sure what it is. I believe the stereo system was either a 7 or 9 speaker. This car is the 9 speaker. This is only what I am getting from scrap yard web searches. Not sure how accurate they are.
I am 1 1/2 hrs south or Burlington. Shoot me a price if you see your friend. I can get one in Rutland at a salvage yard for $50 but I have to talk to them to see if they have been divorced or just yanked?
Thanks
