9-5 Wagon Hatch Compatibility Q

Curious what year hatches interchange on the 9-5's.

The hatch on my 03 is pretty beat and rusty along the bottom edge. Could I replace it with one from a 99-01? Of course the tail lights are different, but couldn't I also swap the corner lenses to the earlier ones to match up? Or is it not that straightforward... Are the light housings inside the car and the wiring different at all?

I like the idea of putting the smoked tails on if it's an easy swap.

Hatches are basically the same 99-05. 02-05 has 2 extra holes drilled in it to mount the plastic panel in between the hatch lamps.

Thanks Scott, and anyone have any idea on the corner lamps? I'm hoping it may be as simple as just swapping the lenses if the inner lamp housing and bulb layout is the same...

You'll have to either modify 99-01 lamps (cut the bottoms off that hold the filler panel) or swap to a 99-01 rear bumper

ah yes I see what you mean... forgot the bumpers are different and the 99-01's have that little filler piece. I will have to get a set of lamps and see how things fit up!

I would be pissed if it was easy for the new guys to get the old tail lights because its much harder for me to install a 2004+ bumper...

Don't be a hater SAABEH... it's kinda like how my PS3 will play PS2 games, but there's no way in hell it will play a PS4 game.

lame... doesn't mean I still can't look for a 99-01 hatch in steel gray to replace mine and then swap my spoiler onto it

Yeah.. early 9-5 (99-01) is by-far the sexiest. Even the front-end.
There's something to be said about the chrome grill, glass lenses, and glass foglights.
You can tell they're better quality than the later nose, and they age much-much better.
I used to be envious of the later tails, but man, do I like the 50/50's.
