Project: finally found a wagon!

So Iíve been back with my 9-5 for a little while and Iím starting to get my mods ordered and figured out. Iíve been out of the Saab game for a little while, but Iíve missed it since the moment I sold the sedan and previous wagon. I began hunting for the right 9-5 and this one kind of fell in to my lap, 04 aero wagon 5 speed with only 83K on it, had all the options I was looking for (xenons, vented seats) and was almost on the right side of the country (it was in Rochester NY, about a 5 hour drive each way). Iíve been doing little things here and there to keep busy and customize it to the way I wanted.

So far Iíve replaced the stereo with my pioneer avic unit, built a custom sub box for the rear, added the open intake, and installed the GS V2 downpipe. Iíve still got to replace the studs on the turbo as they are rough, but it still has a seal so Iím happy for the moment. That brings me to my exhaust, the cat back was falling apart, I couldnít find a 3 inch exhaust for the life of me except Krona and while that is ok, it was expensive because they have to rework it to fit the 04 aero wagons, plus I didnít like the tip. So I set out to custom make my own, first issue is there is no one with a mandrel bender around here, Iím set on them as I donít want crush bends attached to the work of art that the GS down pipe is. So I ordered 4 45 degree 3 inch bend, 1 90 degree 3 inch bend, 1 round magnaflow muffler for a resonator, 1 magnaflow oval for the rear, 2 vband clamps, and the tip I liked. I had it welded up, I chopped the reduced section off the GS DP and now Iím 3 inch all the way!

Iíve also replaced the transmission mount, with the poly unit from GS. I installed the GS turbo inlet pipe a few weeks ago and that made a nice difference. Also found a good deal on a Forge BPV, so I installed that in prep for my tune. Last night I installed the GS short shifter setup, which is a work of art, best mod for the 9-5, makes ripping through the gears feel so much better. I also replaced the shifter bushings with the e-euro ones that are supposed to be stiffer than stock. Either way, great bang for buck with that setup. I bought a core of eBay and sent It out to GS. I also purchased the 3.5 fpr, now I just need to install that and get a tune!

I dynoed it a SOC and with those mods it ran a 218 whp and 259 lbft. I have video that I need to post, but I haven't edited it yet. Also pics below are from the weekend that I got it, I need to get some more!

Iím still trying to decide on what I want to do Turbo wise, Iím trying to decide between a 18t or 19t, I want to stay with the td04 and reuse the downpipe, plus Iím not looking for 500 plus horsepower. Iím not opposed to doing pistons and some machining to make the setup nice, but it will depend on costs, Iím thinking 350 ish would be a good number with a different turbo, my mods plus some, and a tune. Probably add some wheels, a spoiler, and a custom front lip like MATT D. I Basically want a quick sleeper dd.

Iím also going to get a roof spoiler and some wheels over the winter while she is hibernating, but Iíve still got some choices to make there. A few other custom things here and there, but Iím excited to be back now.

Looks nice, and I really liked your sub box. No hurry on the wheels, you've got some of the best ones Saab sent out, IMO.

Dude I love it! This was at SOC and I missed it? wtf. Those numbers are OK, but you need a tune! I made a bit less power but the same tq on a totally stock car with a very mild stage I tune (Mike D tunes love tq).

But 5 spd Aero wagons are the tits! Good for you.

Yea, I was there, but I wasn't parked with everyone. I got there a little later than I expected to because of a detour on our route. I got there, looked around and dynoed then we got hungry so we took off.

Im looking forward to getting the tune done. I've talked mike a couple of times and he seems like a great guy, I'm looking forward to having a road tune done.

Got the tune done. Stage 3 software with full 3 in exhaust, inlet pipe, open air intake and 3.5 fpr. Wow, what a difference that made! car feels like a rocket ship now!
