Great catch on key battery! Should have switched from SID's earlier warnings but when my '01 9-5 didn't start the SID didn't say anything about the key. Swapped the battery and was good to go!

Thank you all SAABLINK forum members for your experiences and advice.
I had a similar starting problem with my SAAB 95 2004 model linear. It was difficult to start at first, then it became intermittent, then NO start at all. The CPS was the culprit.
I eliminated the Fuel Pump as the cause as I could hear the pump starting up from under the car as well as petrol whiff coming out the exhaust while cranking.
If you have similar symptoms in your car. First check the Resistance in the CPS wires 1 and 2. Pull out the connector plug first, a bit fiddly. If it is open circuit then replace the CPS. Mine measures about 950 ohms.
