9-5 Strut assembly Q's

I suspected my strut mounts and bearing were junk (lots of clunking, became worse and more noticeable while turning lately) so I went ahead and replaced them along with new bump stops and strut boots. The strut boots I got were different than what was on the car in that they just attach around the bump stop and hang down over the strut rod. The ones on there (and it appears factory) get sandwiched between the spring support and the coil itself.

So I guess my questions is, does that boot need to be there in the "sandwich"? Does it act as some sort of buffer between the support and coil?

I've still got all sorts of noises up there but noticed while I was in there that the ball joints and tie rod ends are junks as well. Those will get replaced this weekend. I did replace the sway bar end links, as they I knew they were junk. I'll probably end up doing the control arm bushings too by the time all is said and done...

I don't have an answer for your question about the boot. I literally have no idea what you're talking about. Aren't the boots usually just zip-tied on?

Rock Auto sent me an email yesterday saying they had some mood balljoints on clearance.

For the control arm bushings, if you're looking to save a few $$, the PPS bushings are good for the "big" ones, but you'll want the powerflex for the smaller ones.

Same with the rear trailing arm. The PPS are fine.

Looks like the OEM boot is designed to be an isolator as you suggested as the spring support sits inside it.

Callouts 6 and 2 in:

^Right, I just wasn't sure if anyone else had any experience installing without, or knew whether or not it was actually needed? I saved the old boots so will probably end up cutting at least the "Isolator" part off and reinstalling it between the support and the coil.

Just looking to see if anyone else has input before I tear back into these...I really don't want to pull them back apart, but if it fixes the problem then so be it.
