Exclamation 2000 Saab 9-5

Hello Everyone,

Finally going to be purchasing another Saab!
I'm very excited to get one again, it's been years since my old 9-3 died. :

I need your help on things to look for during inspection!

Vehicle Details:
2000 Saab 9-5 (Sedan)
2.3 litre turbo
93,205 miles (150,000km)
Manual Transmission

(Wikipedia says it's a B235E engine, I'm not 100% sure on this.)

I ran the history on the car, a couple of minor accidents on the front of the vehicle back in '00 & '03, all of those accidents were under $3000 to fix, so it shouldn't be too serious.

I will be inspecting this vehicle with a code reader, a flash light and somebody who knows these vehicles mechanically. I'd like to create a checklist to go through.

Please advise:
-What should I be looking for during inspection
-What should I be looking for in the maintenance records?
-Was told it had a Check Engine light previously due to a vacuum hose that was cracked, does that sound legit?

Thank you for your input, I appreciate you taking the time to help-a-brother-out.

A cracked vac hose could cause a cel yes. It doesn't mean it was that but you have your code reader so if you have a smartphone google whatever codes pop up.

Look for the pcv #6 update and see if the oil pan has been dropped and the sump screen cleaned out a MY00 would have been susceptible to the sludging for sure.

As far as that I can't think of anything else other than what youd look for on a pre purchase inspection of any other car. Check all the electric goodies like cruise control, seat heaters, memory seats, etc these can help you bargain down in price or make you feel more confident about the purchase. Check to see if the ACC works and the blend door isn't stuck. I've never gone this far but if you we're so compelled you could run water over the sunroof to see if it leaks I was borrowing a friends car last week and that happened.

Maybe someone else has more.

^ that's all in addition to basic mechanical stuff I'm assuming you know to look for.

Hell, if you wanted you could pop off the DIC real quick and check the date stamp it should be at least as new as 2004 since there was a recall around then but if its newer that would be nice. But now that you can easily get the SEM ones for 150-200 it's not as big of a deal as the red ones....
