The other aspect is that even though LED's are very efficient, Luxeon's require good heatsinking so that counts out plastic housings like current-generation cars using HID headlighting have.

I'ven been wondering for a while... if it would be possible to use a led array and use HID projectors to direct the light. Im guessing some type of a heatsink would need to be made for them. Would using those type of projectors help any?

haha idea is nice lol i got sylvania cool blue on my 01' 9-3. you should put amber led turn lights..
