SAAB Audio alternatives ??

Is it possible to replace the original SAAB audio system with a non-SAAB head unit, if so how ?? I have tried a couple of things to see what is possible but realy need some proper advice.

So far I have unplugged the radio control under the middle air vents but lost the use of the SID completely so I'm not sure this way is possible. The other option I was looking at was to remove the dash mounted CD player and fit a head unit in its place, this way I retain the SID function and have my own radio but I think it will look a little unslghtly.

The only reason I want to fit my own ICE is that I listen to DAB radio and my radio incorporates a SATNAV system.

If fitting my own unit is not possible, as I only have the basic system and it sounds awful, is it possible to have the complete system upgraded to include the SATNAV option (even though it will be expensive), also if it can be done, does a dealer have to do it ??

Thanks in advance.

if you have a linear, i know the audio upgrade kit is available as a Saab product i believe. ( amp + 2 woofers + 4 components i believe). as far as an aftermarket cd player goes, I haven't really looked into it. try and they will have a selection of cd players that are supposed to fit the 9-3. I'm not sure about incorporating it with the satnav, but i would assume that it does automatically incorporate it.
