subwoofer with factory system

I'm wondering if anyone has added a sub to their stock radio and how much of a PITA it is.

I'm looking to hook up just one good 10" woofer for more bass. I'm pretty sure I have the 13 speaker system if that makes a difference.

I put in a 12" sub but I had someone else install it cause I didn't want to have to deal with all the wires from the trunk to the head unit. It shouldn't be that difficult though and it's definitely worth it for more bass in your face.

It is actually pretty easy if you use something like the this:

Epicenter Audio Control

there are a couple of diagrams showing it being used to add extra amps etc. Just splice into the wires from your rear speakers and put the out put to your sub.

Basically with this image for your car the wires coming from the Factory Stereo will be the extra ones you have spliced into your speakers. then the output would just be the ones going to your subs and amp. this allows you to keep full control of your stock speakers bass etc and not blow them up or get the dull thud they make with too much bass but allows you to control the level of the sub from your dash (just fine tune the amp to the highest level you would want with the epicenter set at the top) and you should never have distortion and a pretty simple way to hook it up.

any other questions let me know...

Great, thanks, that's what I was looking for. Have this amp and sub box just sitting in the garage waiting to be used, and the factory thump is... lacking.

Or you could use a simple line out converter, you won't have as much control as nowhereman's method, but i've done it in several vehicles and with proper tuning it works very nicely and its dirt cheap.

I run a line out off of the rear 6x9s (I have them unplugged). I originally had a sealed box and was turning up the bass on the dash to get more oomf, then I blew my rear speaker amp. Upgraded my sub amp and moved to a ported box after, I also have a volume knob mounted under my dash that controls the sub volume. The trunk on the SS is pretty well insulated, if you're under the age of 30 you'll probably want a ported enclosure.
