Is this play excessive? Video link inside

97 900 se turbo, automatic transmission, with 171,000 on the clock. I'm trying like hell to track down a persistent rhythmic, low thumping coming from some part of the rotating drivetrain or hub. I'm having a difficult time even determining which side of the car it's on. The noise does increase in volume when quickly changing lanes to the left more so than the right so perhaps it's on the right side of the car and the wheel bearing, axle carrier bearing, or cv joint is faulty. While examining the drivers side I did notice some light noise from the hub area as well as this play where the axle enters the auto transmission. The steering wheel vibrates quite badly at 65mph. Control arms, stanchion arm bushings, end-links, inner tie rod bushings, struts, and strut mounts have been recently replaced in an attempt to solve this issue. Here's the vid:

Yeah that's not right... Not sure about automatics, but my 97 NG had not quite as bad play and it was the differential bushing.

Hard to tell from that angle, but could be CV, inner driver or even bad carrier bearings on the differential.

Thank you for the reply srp. There must be a similar bushing in the automatics but I wonder if the appropriate part is available? Any suggestions where to source? I would hate to have to replace the transmission for a simple bushing but as you mentioned it could be something more severe on the diff.
