Bumpy Road Sloshing

So a recent development is that whenever I am driving on very crappy roads with lots of heaves and pot holes and road surface deformations that cause the car to rock back and forth and bounce around, gasoline erupts up around the retainer ring that holds the top of the fuel pump assembly in place. This causes gas to ooze under the rear seat area and collect in the top of the fuel pump assembly where the in/out lines affix with those notorious tabs.
Does this indicate failure of vacuum in the tank or is that ring simply fatigued and no longer sealing? I tried to tighten it, but it wouldn't budge tightening or loosening.
Thanks in advance,
-Cm

There's a big o-ring that goes under the upper portion of the pump assembly that seals to the tank, under the lock ring - try replacing it and use a little grease to lubricate it. It may just have not been seated correctly when you did your Walbro (or it's missing entirely perhaps.)

They are like $12 and is quick and easy before you start diving in looking for fittings and such.

Excellent tip! Thanks! I have no recollection of there ever being a gasket of any kind, which I marveled at upon disassembling the OE unit. Might have disintegrated? I'll look into it once I can get the retainer ring undone; man is that thing on there!
