Car is still over-boosting...

Car is a JZW 3+, with Viggen TD04 and big FMIC:

I've still got my strange lurch during WOT. New NGK BCPR7es-11 plugs, gapped correctly and a newer DI. It will spike at nearly 30 and drop to about 22 and lurches, like a fuel cut, in that area.

I was told the BPC is likely the culprit. I heard from someone on the forums that the resistances between pins 1 and 2, and 2 and 3, should be about 3 ohms. I checked the resistances and they were right on the money. Also cleaned out the nipples a few times with WD-40 and 90 psi compressed air.

Does anyone have an idea of what is going here? Would the BPC still require more cleaning yet, or is it shot?

On a more positive note, it seems that the oil leak has been cured. I forgot to put a washer on one side of the oil supply to turbo (engine side) line, which I found and put on today. Couldn't see any drippage after my spirited WOT runs.

Got my first wheelspin at the top of second gear tonight, on dry roads too

I'm not sure how those would cause me to overboost...

I guess the IC is most likely.

Ic wouldn't cause overboosted.

Check with a known good BPC.

I fought for a while with a car and it was a stupid thing I kept over looking.

Symtoms were:
1st pull would be dead on w/ slight ping.
After that car would either go un conrolled boost or stick to base boost
Once the key was cycled on and off car would run right again for one more pull.

Culprit:
Hose from the BPC to the Compressor housing blew off and the computer was able to compensate and cover it up.

I haven't had any problems with the hoses coming off...but maybe I should inspect them for leaks.

I'm just curious as to how my BPC seems to check out in every single way, but not actually work. Now I'm also noticing some hesitance (no, not turbo lag) when I'm in the boost, maybe at 10 psi or so. I'm just gonna get a different BPC and see what happens.

Like what sort of issue? I had the fuel pump replaced recently. Fuel filter was done a few years ago. This tune is supposed to utilize stock injectors and FPR...

I have the same setup and had trouble overboosting and blowing off IC hoses left right and center.

My culprit was a seized waste gate (the little pin connecting the waste gate arm to the waste gate.

Solution: Sprayed the crap out of it with liquid wrench super penetrating oil for several weeks while moving the arm back and forth with a screw driver. I would do this when the engine was cold and hot. Now that I think I removed all the rust with the oil, no more sticky waste gate.

Lol.

I've got the ECU back from JZW, but just need to put it in, and see if that remedies the situation, he said it *shouldn't* overboost like that anymore. Hopefully the CEL is gone, otherwise I need a new core

Also, I tried two other BPCs - one would stick in base boost, and the other one I bought from a guy who was parting out his stage 5 Saab, and that one acted just the same as my original one. So I'm thinking it's not that...

Update

I have the tuned ECU back from John, but haven't had time to install it yet. However, I noticed with my stock ECU that on some occasions (I noticed it in 5th gear at 70 mph) the boost would fluctuate like crazy (from 7 to 14 psi, back and forth, but I wasn't changing the throttle position at all). As I said before, I've tried a few BPCs without any change...so is it a problem with the wastegate actuator? I think I'm gonna buy one from a 9000 TD04 - that should be compatible with a Viggen TD04, right?

Sounds like the ecu, plug the new one, unplug battery for a while and go for a spin.

But I've noticed it now with both ECUs...the tuned one gave me a CEL (which hopefully is fixed now, haven't re-installed yet). The stock one I just noticed starts giving this boost issue, but has never had a CEL.

Thanks Mark, that's what I needed to know. Maybe I can just clean this one up or something...would using a helper spring assist in any way? I was doing a little reading on those last night, and it seems like it is something that is used if the actuator is weak. Or maybe I suck it up and buy a Forge actuator that I can't afford
