Unhappy White smoke Billowing out tail pipe

Hi everyone, so my 01 9-3 2.0t has a problem, the oil light came on the other day, I got about half a mile, it lost power and I had to have it towed home. When I got it home I topped off the oil and started it, it ran about 30 seconds and white smoke started pouring out the exhaust, started to idle rough and then shut off, no engine light on, and the coolant doesn't seem to be low, I'm not sure if its a blown head gasket, or something else, it also has a small tapping noise. Any input would be appreciated.

That really doesn't sound good at all. If you ever have kids that drive, you should consider teaching them that when the oil light comes on, under all circumstances, it means shut the engine off as soon as safely possible--if not sooner--and don't start it again until you know that you've fixed the problem.

In some cases even that's too late, but normally when the oil light comes on and you continue to drive the car you're looking at the fix being either a new engine or major engine rebuild work. Sometimes if the oil light is lightly flickering at idle, it's not very bad, but usually if it comes on during normal driving RPM's and you continue to drive it, it gets really bad very quickly.

Sounds like the bearings/seals in the turbo probably went and you blew all the oil out the exhaust. Like Drew says, if you ran it that long without oil, much more damage likely occurred.
