reverse lights stopped working

started my car the other night went into reverse and no front reverse lights or rear! i believe there is a switch located on the transmission? my question is where is that switch located and where does the wire go to.also how would one go about wiring an aux switch for the reverse lights because thatd be a rather cool alternative thanks

manual or automatic?

the manual trans has the reverse switch on the back almost directly underneath the brake master cylinder.

When I bought my 9-5 the reverse lights didn't work. Luckily I had an NG900 trans laying around and swapped the reverse switch.

If you unplug the reverse switch and short the two connectors, the reverse lights should come on.

If they do, your switch is bad.
If they don't check your fuses and bulbs.

Looking from the drivers seat, it is to the left of where the shift rod enters the transmission. Below the clutch cable.

Nope. There is a switch screwed into the transmission housing.

nothing goes to the clutch cable. the clutch cable goes from the clutch pedal, to the throwout bearing arm.

the reverse light switch just goes to the wire harness.
