"Brake Light Failure" plus third brake light always on, base boost, no cruise control

I've got a 97 900 turbo convertible that is having a couple of problems, that I think may be related. All of this was working fine when I parked it 3 months ago.

First, immediately when the car starts up I get the Brake Light Failure warning on the SID, without me having touched the brakes. At the same time, immediately when you turn the car on, the third brake light illuminates. It does get brighter when you press the brake pedal, which makes me think that it's not a problem with the brake switch.

Additionally, the car is only making base boost. I know that the car will only make base boost if the ecu thinks the brake pedal is being depressed. The cruise control is also not working. All of this leads me to believe that there is an electrical problem related to the brake wiring, but I am not sure where to even start looking.

I have verified all the fuses with a multimeter. I blocked off the wastegate hose to verify that the turbo will spool and build boost, which it does. I do not see any evidence of a mouse/etc damaging any wiring.

What else should I check?

I would check the brake light switch first. This has failed on my car twice! Maybe I'm hard on them . Mine doesn't exhibit the same behavior though, it stays illuminated even with the key off and out.

There are two switches, one that controls the brake light and they other that signals the cruise to turn off. I would check both of those.

Haha, I was going to suggest looking at the bulbs/grounds. Good catch!
