1995 900 non turbo auto tranny slip

Hello!

I'm looking at a high mileage 900 in my neighborhood to use as a stopgap vehicle. It's super cheap, otherwise I probably wouldn't consider an NG. Owner reports that it has a tendency to drag in 1st gear from a standstill, otherwise it runs fine and the AC works.

From what little I've researched, some owners report bad transmission mounts being the culprit for this type of problem...any other ideas or confirmations???

I'm a broke, semi disabled, single parent of two kids and cannot afford major parts prices. I can DIY. It needs to get me through the summer without major catastrophe.

BTW...I love the old school Saabs and also know the location of a straight but forlorn 85 SPG that could be had for cheeeeeeaaaap

Spoke to the owner again to see if it has the reported "thud" after shifting, she says it does not...

Ok, so I went for a test ride.

Both engine and tranny idiot lights are on. The engine is also rather loud (normal?), but inside not super noticeable.

No thud when putting in D (but it does thud when put in reverse)

The car slowly moves away at 2000rpm and drags up to about 25-30mph, then behaves normally. It actually drives really nice once under way.

To put it in perspective, if you have ever used anything with a variable CVT transmission, that is EXACTLY what it feels like.

Please...give me your thoughts!!!
