Overheating problem - Think its waterpump but not sure

Hi

New to here so not too clued up on culture...anyway

started overheating short while ago...killed engine immediately so shouldn't be any gasket or head probs.
Weird cause its normal sometimes but i've noticed that when it overheats the heater blows cold, so i figured the water wasnt circulatin.

Checked oil for any white...nothin strange about the color but wont be takin it back to same mechanic for service in the future...semi-synthetic oil, prob tryin to cut costs.

changed thermostat but water still not circulating, didnt take it out the driveway though just let it get up to normal operatin temp and water still not movin even though fan switched on and off.

thinkin about changin the water pump as a friend said the engine was a bit loud before it all started happenin.

Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated.
thanks

by the way, its a 9-5 Aero, 2000 model, from what i've read waterpumps are funny on them but not too sure as saab mechanic said they dont get many in for swappin.

was the thermostat...let it idle for a long long long time and turned aircon on, drove slowly and stopped often to check level and for leaking.

turned on aircon on hot to see if water was circulating and warm air was blowing and then yeah...worked out ok.

saved myself $350, $30 for thermo and coolant from Lance Dickson, changin oil next.

lesson learned, never never take your saab to someone who is not a registered saab service technician, and if they are cheaper its not by much. Also just cause they have saab in their name doesn't mean they wont try to do u by puttin inferior parts or consumables in.

Like this forum and site, pics comin soon
