I think my turbo PUKED!

I have a 2000 9-5 2.3 lpt 5sp. with 109,000 miles. It has the Saab tune-up kit installed by Saab, and it runs great! Yesterday, when I was leaving work, I fired it up and it smoked pretty good for a minute (never smoked before) and when I started driving it had no power of any kind. I have had no warning of any kind,no engine lights on dash, nothing. I have not been driving the vehicle hard to damage anything, trying to take it easy on the gas mileage on my 30 mile each way to work @ $3.19 a gallon! Any explainations, guesses, or suggestions? Or more importantly, anyone know where I can get a TDO4 turbo? Thanks for any help!

If it's an lpt, it has the GT17, and if it's the original turbo, from what I understand, if you've got 109,000 miles on the car, someone should probably give you a trophy. TD04 is a good upgrade. Others will chime in.

yep like unkempt said you used the little gt17 for all she is worth. as far as what it takes to upgrade someone else will have to say. iirc the td04 is even cheaper to buy than the gt so it's an upgrade for less money.

Which is probably part of the reason that the turbo failed.

I think the previous owner had the turbo replaced at about 60,000 but I'm not sure. I will drop the pan when I have everything apart.

The upgrade to a td-04 is a pretty simple bolt on. Sometime this week I will write up a tutorial along with some possible pictures if i get a chance to take them. Maybe a mod will be able to sticky it in the 9-5 forum if I do.

But the basis is that it bolts in place and you have some options for the one spot that doesnt quite "bolt up". which is the coolant line that goes from the turbo to the side of the head. you can try to get an aero line to fit which is pretty easy, or you can just use the stock LPT line and use some copper washers on the banjo bolt that is on the turbo.

More explanation sometime this week when i am not super tired and have lots of stuff going on tomorrow.
