P0450 and P1444 codes

Anyone know of common cause/fixes for these codes? I replaced the purge valve, then blocked the line to the canister after the purge valve didn't fix the problem. Codes came back after three days of driving. Cannister purge valve next or what?
Oh yeah, it's a 2001 9-5 LPT 5 spd.

I used to hit the valve on one of my previous 9-5's, it would be CEL free for a few months at a time.

Aren't the valve codes really just solenoid failure?
It's been a while since I had emissions issues, but I think I remember that codes related to part failure are generally the solenoid failing.

of course... shutting them off is an option, but I remember owning an ECU that Frank @ SQR had done with "emissions shut off" that failed because it was never "ready".

Update:
So, it was the canister purge valve located under the car about two feet inboard from the right rear wheel. Strange location and is enclosed in a black plastic cover that needed it's four tabs defeated to access the valve. Again, this is a 9-5 and I am now P1444-free. Main seal and wheel bearings next. Then the dog legs. I'm liking the 9-5. No sludge and flushed/changed the trans oil with Pennzoil Synchromesh. Shifts like butta.
