2008 9-5 fuel sensor sending unit?

Hi All!

I just got another Saab. It has one issue to which I hope I can get an answer to here.

It's a 2008 9-5. Fuel gauge is not moving but fuel tank is topped off. I read that that 1999-2005 can be removed, the baffles pushed around or there could be some wiring issue. However I can't get any info on 2006-2009 9-5. What does this involve? Do I need to get entire fuel pump or just the sensor to replace?

Thanks!

you do have to drop the fuel tank on the + 06 to remove the fuel pump. However, there is still access to the unit from the floor. You can reach the sensor arm from on top. Try moving it to see if it is stuck. I doubt that is your issue on an 08. My guess it that it will move freely. It might just be a loose wire.

Hi Mike,

Can you elaborate on how to get there? Removing rear seats or through trunk? Thanks!

I got to this point. Disconnected wires, brushed the connectors but no result. How do I remove the cover?

You need to reach into the tank and find the sensor arm running back to the pump. See if it moves up or down. If you cant get in there and you are sure it is the sender unit you have to drop the tank. Owch. You might also look on Saab Central or Saab World but there is not much info on +06 models and the sending unit.

To update this thread: I ended up bringing it to a nearby Saab shop (review coming up) and they fixed it. It was actually only the sensor, not the whole pump that ABJ told me to replace.

Also got bumper brackets installed properly and headlight ballast replaced, so I'm one happy camper.
