1999 Saab 9-5 4cyl.

Issues started about 12 days ago where the car cranked and cranked after a 25 minute drive. It did eventually turn on after trying.

However, after two more times doing this it entirely gave up (still cranked and cranked, never powered up though). Came out the next morning and it started just fine. This happened for a few days.

The rev counter would shutter and bounce around during the cranking. I replaced the crank position sensor today hoping it was the problem. However, no dice. It still cranks and cranks.

I do hear the fuel pump priming (though my indie mech is going to take a look tomorrow).

Thoughts on what it may be? DI??

Also, maybe related. Sometimes after heavy driving or long trips with the AC on as I slow down (under 25mph) or to a stop it will stall. It turns on right away just fine.

Some other details that may be worth knowing - replaced the engine 6 months ago (new one has 60k on it, included di, turbo, etc). Though since replacing the engine the CEL blinks occasionally. It's always on, always has be since i bought the car 3 years ago. Just after the engine replacement it sometimes blinks. I don't know what codes it's throwing out though.

One last thing that might help -- sometime I get a message saying to tighten fuel cap when idle.

Thank you for your help!

if the ECU was bad the car wouldn't even try to turn over or even turn on. Everything in these cars runs through the ECU.

we've asked about 30 times where you got the DI Cassette from and you haven't answered. if it wasn't from a reputable saab place and is some ebay or Chinese knock off it can very likely be the culprit.

at this point you should get someone who is a saab specialist out to the car or have it towed. you are only going to damage more and make the problem worse if you keep digging like this with no clue where the problem truly is.

99 9-5 wagon, 2.3l engine, had the same problem, new CPS solved the problem. according to another site CPS at pins 1 and 2 and my multimeter showed 0.834k ohms. It is possible to get a bad CPS from the factory.

You already confirmed that the o ring is out and that the CPS is set deep enough and firmly seated.

Assumption is that DI is plugged in, I've done that before. Wiring to DI is in good shape? I also pull the plugs and flip the DI over and put the plugs in, attach the wiring harness and ground the plugs, it does an interesting light show/shows that spark or not.

99 9-5 has a fuel rail that takes a standard fuel pressure gauge. What is the reading?

Beyond that, get gold level AAA and have it towed to a shop that does Saabs.
