another Build Thread Thing

So For the second time I attack this saab with performance in mind, this time I believe I can actually get my plans done, with the power of money and new acquired knowledge.

First thing first this car was baught for 1200 with 130k, 2 weeks of driving and the engine blew threw a rod through the block. Wish I had the pics horrible.

So my plans are to make this car reliable and Put 300-350 horse out of the car. So first is reliability so my problems are as listed.
Axle boots are ripped so they need to be changed.

Oil Pan has a crack jb welded at the moment but how long will that hold?

Mirrors I need two who wants to sell me them?

Idle surges between 1-2 will hold at 2 until gassed is pressed then begin to surge again so maybe stuck throttle or iac?

The Cooling Fan is on all the time maybe the relay I have to actually plug it out, the coolant resisvor top leaks coolant spits it out the top could it be faulty?

My Temp guage does no work I have no clue why

I need to smoke test the turbo it has a huge leak somewhere.

Now onto the performance goodies
I would like to first get a 3" exhaust
Intercooler + piping and Bov
intake and piping
T5 stage 3 tune
A nice drop
Performance clutch and light flywheel

The car already has a walbro 255 pump.

I plugged in the speedo it did not work instead the temp guage begain to bounce around?
The turbo has a huge leak now at high rpm 2nd and 3rd gear the car begings to kinda spudder catch spudder catch is this problem tied in with the turbo leak?

Pressure tested my coolant system today it held began to loose pressure water pump hose had a bit of a leak, the coolant in the resisvor is bubbling as if its going to over heat is maybe a thermostat issue? And the fan still stays on all the time

your temp gauge and fan problems are probably both due to the temp sensor in the end of the head. It's got a short length of 2 wires and a plug on it. Fan runs all the time because the computer does not know the engine temp to turn on the fan (safety feature so you don't overheat) Make sure you're not trying to plug the speedo into the plug for the temp sensor

The 9k can be made into a great performance car that can run with many top end cars like BMW m3 cars at the track, have seen it and felt it with my own 9k aero with suspension and tuning work.

You will need at least a custom stg 4 tune to get 300bhp with the stock turbo and the t5 easy tune will not do it, its too rich and the dyno sheets from it are fairly poor, not very good I have to say.

You would need a large ETS IC, full 3" exhaust and with some good tuning, 300bhp would be in the mix. For 350bhp, you need at least a 19T and or a gt28rs, then you can get more power and you will need to add a nice clutch and injectors to the equation.

good luck !

John

sounds like you've got a long ways to go... best of luck though!

Before you dream big you obviously need to get the car running at or near stock levels. As Mike D called it, stage 0.

Always good seeing high HP 9k's out there.

Hmmmmmm, okay I decided I should check this coolant boiling issue out, the car began to back fire on starts and spudder during accerlration, did a compression test and I have 120 at cyls 1 and 4 and at 2 and 3 it gets t0 90 slowly and holds.. Is this a headgasket issue? Coolant still boils what do you guys think

Could either be a headgasket or bad piston rings

boiling coolant is an indicator of the hg. Check your oil and make sure its not milky - also hg

there is no coolant in oil or oil in coolant, but the two mid cylinders being low on compression makes me believe that the rings are gone...

if two adjoined cyls are low...that could also be a broken hg. What color is your exhaust? Im guessing its white...

the only cams you can buy are gs's for around 700 I think. Just do a port/polish and port match on both manifolds. Your hg is prob already gone and the coolant in your cyl is causing your running issues so fix it now

do a wet compression test to see if your rings are bad.
