Upper intercooler pipes any interest?

While we're putting my engine back together, I think we're going to weld-up some IC pipes. I know for sure I'll be making some lower IC pipes, but We're also considering making a replacement upper IC pipe (the black plastic one)

Do any of you guys have interest in a kit if we put one together?
It certainly wouldn't cost the $5-600 that Abbot's costs, and would likely be 2.25 or 2.5" aluminum piping.

We're just going to have to figure out the "flanges" for the intake temp sensor and MAP.

If they're made, they'll be in limited batches.

Well, aluminum keeps things simple.
I know "my guy" has the ability to weld either, but the more-commonly thinner walled aluminum typically doesn't heat-soak like s/s.

Either way, we'll weigh out the options, and go from there.

Mike, are you familiar-enough to know if the 02+ sensors will work in 99-01 cars?

I don't know whether there was a specific change, but I'll try to track down that info.

These will be sweet pipes, regardless of material...

Well, we finished up today. Rob and I decided to make the pipe in a way that would keep it far from the exhaust, and still have smooth bends.
Here's a couple pictures. This is obviously a 99-01 style intake pipe. Rob could pretty easily make the 02+ style (he has the stock 02 pipe at the shop)

This pipe is made for a FMIC kit, and comes down to the front @ 90-degrees, so you could use any size side-side FMIC.

He's going to make a jig shortly, so he'll be able to weld them up with relatively short turn-around time.

Is there enough interest for your buddy to crank out a batch? They look nice, I'd like one 02+ style if it was possible

Wow. That's pretty damn sexy right there....

The placement looks brilliant in the way it avoids the DP by a mile. A simple piece of rubber tubing cut lengthwise and slipped over the edge of the DIC will prevent any rattles.

First-rate job....

For the sake of time, we just cut 1/2" off of the end of the DIC.
in the future, he's going to either use a longer leg on the silicone, or add 3/4" to the pipe so it clears everything easily.

Here's mine. I polished it up a little, and degreased/powerwashed the disgusting engine bay.

He said low-mid 200's out the door.
He's a local guy in south/central NH, so you'd be able to drive there, and he could do whatever you wanted/needed.

For those who can't make it up there, any chance in shipping them?

I'm certain we/he could arrange shipping.
I'm going to talk to him about building a jig to produce these.
(I'll see about him joining this forum, too!)

I've mentioned it to him a couple times, but he hasn't gotten back to me.
I know he wants to continue making kits, so I'm surprised he hasn't joined.

I'll remind him today...
