Would much rather have had one of those over my last rental, a Chevy HHR.
By far the worst "new" car I have ever driven. For something with less than 8k miles on it, it felt like it had 200k with a few demo-derbys thrown in there. Bet that thing's great on gas though... |

My brother had an 05 Cobalt, then an 08 Cobalt SS and now has an HHR. I drove the SS for a few days in 09 and it was a blast to drive. Uncomfortable as fuck, but fast as hell. He drove me to Chicago in the 05 and it was very comfortable.
I haven't spent enough time in the HHR, but it seems comfortable enough. That said, the only one of the three I'd own is the Cobalt SS. But not as a daily driver. |

My wife's Volvo C70 got rear ended last winter and she had a 09 Dodge Avenger as a rental. It was really funny listening to her complain about it. She always thought I was nuts, but now she finally understands the quality differences between imports and American cars.

Yea the avenger is another car they ruined, it use to be a 2 door coupe and now its a mid sized piece of crap 4 door car. My uncle had a new impala for a rental and those are also terrible now; I can't understand why anyone would want to buy one. Two pretty good cars there that got a lot worse.

Wasn't a rental, but I logged 800 something miles in a new ford fiesta on monday and it was an awesome little car. Seats were not quite as nice as most saab seats, but I only started to get sore in the last 100 miles. Stable on the highway, quick enough when you want it to be (it was a 5 speed, and to make it go it really needed to be above 3500 rpm, but above that it moved itself right along) brakes felt nice, radio was good, minimal road/wind noise yet the engine actually makes a nice noise for a 1.6 etc. I was impressed though, well done ford. For comparison, I've spent some time in a Fit thats a couple years old, and this was a nicer drive.

To actually go through the trouble of returning a rental car immediately after renting it due to unacceptable suckiness takes real distaste.
Only two cars that were simply intolerable and thus, fit this description, were a Pontiac Sunfire and a Jeep Liberty. Undriveable turds. Can't understand how anybody lives with those two. Both have torturous ergonomics and NVH. I almost returned a Pontiac G6 once, too. You remember those? Nobody does. Car actually looks pretty hot. But the ingress/egress is severely pinched. The interior plastics are so hard and rough-textured, you can write on them with a pencil! HHR's are good cars, if you can live with the low roof height. I'm normally not hard on a car but taking it through the hills at a resonable speed seemed to go beyond the ability of the car. The 4cyl returned poor economy as well for what it was.

I had a kia forte sedan in fall of '10 when my wife and I were down in Orlando, overall I was impressed, aside from the like 26-28mpg I got, even on the highway. Had 15 miles on it when we picked it up.
The break-in guidelines, they were not followed.

This is a sad thread. Years and years of so called R&D, millions in advertising, and billions in bailout, and GM still can't build decent cars that stay in one piece. God damn!
