Broken oil cap

Hey guys. New member here.

I recently bought a 2001 9-3. 64000 miles. I was checking my oil level yesterday at the house. I went to unscrew the cap and it just broke in two. The seal under the cap is fine and I still have both pieces and the spring. Is the car ok to drive short distances or should I just have it sit till I get a new cap? Thanks in advance.

You'll be fine to drive the car without the oil cap. You might just get some oil mist coming out of the tube.

When mine broke, I just duct taped it down until the replacement arrived.

Yeah, keep the black part in there and see if you can clamp/tape/hold it down with something. I bought a 9-3 that someone used heavy gauge tin foil to hold it in place. Not a long term fix but it kept out dust and stuff.
