So a year ago I convinced my uncle to buy a 1999 9-3 Vert as he was renting a car every week at the time. He broke even, loves the car, and is now a Saab fanatic, mostly because of the pricing and reliability.
He's about to give the 9-3 to my cousin so he can have a car at college and he needs another. Originally he was talking about another 9-3 vert but he never gets a chance to use it the top and 9-5s are as cheap or cheaper then 9-3s at this point.
I'm avoiding the V-6 but is there anything else I should look for as far as options? I know 2003 saw a 5 speed auto and should be out of the slugging years so I may be looking for one of those. I generally get the impression that the 9-5 is more reliable then the og9-3 is this true?
I'm thinking a LPT is the best bet seeing as how he just uses the car for highway driving, manuals are out as the traffic is a bit rough and he pretty much uses the car as an office. May even look into wagons.
Any general comments or feelings on your reliability are welcome in this thread. I know we all post when our turbos go out or our A/C shits the bed, but feel free to talk about reliability and longevity if you're having a good time of it.
Of course I could just find him another 9-3, probably just a sedan, but he's interested in trying something new, but it does have to be a Saab. May try for an SS but in all likely hood a 9-5 will be it.
I know that after this search I'm thinking my next car will be a 9-5. Probably a wagon.
Thanks in advance!
CN: Bitch or gloat about your 9-5.
